Photography Tip:

Learn to read a histogram. Make sure your photos are not under exposed or over exposed. If you have to pick one of those directions to lean, go toward under exposed – since it’s more seeing pure black is more natural for the human eye than pure white.

Also, take your photos in RAW. This way you can recover some of the detail that would have been lost to pure white or pure black if they had been taken as JPGs. When importing the photos and developing them digitally, follow through by adjusting the levels/curves for each photo.
